about

So this song was originally not going to be on the EP, but
Patrick, my drummer loved playing this one. We like different
stlyes of music, I wanna just go faster and faster but Patrick
wants to get funkier and funkier. One day I'll find a comfortable
middle. Anyways The opening riff for this song is one of the first
things I ever wrote after I decided to write songs. I have a tiny
little book full of feelings, from which nothing has been recorded
(thank god) but it was my first attempts. A year's worth of feelings
and writing attempts. The first time I sat down to write, I wrote
this riff and loved it. I decided to play it like the song "Shanghai
Rhapsody" by the Back Horn, which if you have never listed to please
do, Headphone Childre, listen to that album, the combination of punk,
alt, rock is perfect and the basslines are quite melodic and some
of the best I've heard ever. Anyways I wanted to write a song about
Huntington, and the song "Shanghai Rhapsody" was written about a
city as a metaphor for someone's "hell". I love huntington to death
but there's a side that you can choose to not see, it's not pretty.
The community here is amazing but there are its issues. It's not
all hopeless. The phrase "Can't get away from here" isn't a
reference to anything specific, it was honestly the first lines I
wrote for the song that I came up with, always like it, they just
kind of lingered in my head and so I stuck with it in the end.
There a are couple of references in here like a "city made of stone"
I'll say the stone is brown and leave it at that mister. But
seriously I love Huntington. Thanks for being a part of my life.

lyrics

A city made of stone
Over shadowed by the hills
The river keeps flowing in
No one going out
Red lights begin to glow
There's a world underground
What does the city do for them?
Just a new coat of paint

The blind don't seem to care
What color the roads are
The roads all lead the same
Never far away
Some cry out in fear
Some cry out in joy
The rain never stops
We'll drown here

I can't seem to get away get away from here
I can't seem to get away get away from here
I'll disappear...
I'll climb out of here...

It's not enough to know
Anyone can fall
Get up on their own
But not all want to go
Who's to judge their worth?
That's not for me you know
I'll learn to swim
I won't drown here

I can't seem to get away get away from here
I can't seem to get away get away from here
I'll disappear...
I'll climb out of here...

I can't seem to get away get away from here
I can't seem to get away get away from here
I'll disappear...
I won't drown here...
